Word association game, I say Creation records and you say? That's right, Oasis and other such garbage. Well there was once a time when Creation records had quite the roster. My Bloody Valentine bankrupted them, The Jesus and Mary Chain enthralled them, Teenage Fan Club serenaded them and Primal Scream just hung around in the kitchen while waiting their turn. And when it came? What glory. It took the introduction of Mani to escape Brit pop guitar droning rubbish and Kevin Shields to reignite their power but when they finally found that blend of rock and dance they showed their true power. Cocky, loud, sleazy, sexy and pulsating. Primal indeed.
10. Loaded (Screamadelica) Lets start where it all....um...started for a lot of us. A rock club standard, the beat, the dancing and oh those horns. Unfairly corned in with the sound of Madchester this showed a depth sadly lacking by many of their peers.
09. Kill All Hippies (XTRMNTR) Does she open by introducing herself as Gordon? Extra bonus points for that and even if she doesn't they are telling us to kill hippes and why the hell wouldn't you?
08. Kowalski (Vanishing Point) A gorgeously sinister driving industrial mess. This continues to give me nightmares in a way Marllyn Manson can only dream about.
07. Swastika Eyes (XTRMNTR) People in power, they have swastika eyes..... Apparently. This is no longer rock music as we know it and the world is a better place because of it. Its not even music, its just a pulse.
06. Motorhead (Vanishing Point) Yes its a cover but I dont care because Motorhead are horrible and this is a glorious piece of glammed up disco that Nile Rogers is still jealous about.
05. Accelerator (XTRMNTR) Is this my favourite guitar tone ever? Quite possibly. Clipped distortion that you can only imagine had the sound engineer tearing his hair out at the mess that was coming out of his speakers. loud, obnoxious and driving in a way that has you banging your head all the way to the ear plug pixie. A guitar solo to die for.
04. Beautiful Future (Beautiful Future) It doesnt sound so beautiful to me. An optimism with a sense of dread ringing beneath. Quite apt really.
03. Some Velvet Morning feat. Kate Moss (Evil Heat) What? Another cover? Who the hell is Kate Moss? Well kids, there was once a time when Kate Moss was more rock n roll than Lemmy and you would find her in videos such as the white stripes, and recording studios of the libertines. It seems like she can sing also. This is a sleazy sunday morning hang over song. Best listened to with a whisky chaser to accompany your cornflakes.
02. Where The Light Gets In feat. Sky Ferreira (Chaosmosis) Quite minamilistic as far as this band are concerend but an uplifting piece of pop is a much welcomed addition to their catalogue.
